School is responsible to a great extent as it will be seen from the following story. This incident took place many years ago at a primary school in a provincial town.
A sixth grade teacher brought with him in a history lesson some pictures a friend of his had taken during a trip to Constantinople. Most of them depicted Hagia Sophia.
So without wasting time, the teacher started passing them from desk to desk, and after all the pupils had seen the pictures he burst into a nationalist - fascist rant.
The cause was a pupil's question who wondered why the teacher had not joined his friend in his trip so as to admire the monuments of Constantinople from close.
Then the teacher replied to him: "I would really like to visit Constantinople but I can't stand it. The mere thought that this place belonged to us in the past and now it belongs to others drives me crazy. Why should I go there? To see what? Some dirty-Turks desecrating the greatest monument of Christianity?
These people – forgive me for calling them people, only the god could turn them into human beings cause they are animals, just a bunch of dirty dogs – desecrate Hagia Sophia just by walking and breathing next to it.
Had I been there, I would have gone crazy. I would not have been able to hold myself and I would have strangled every person in my sight. Because that's what they deserve! They are the most disgusting people in the whole world. All the other people have offered something to humanity but what about the Turks? What should we admire Turks for? For their barbarity and their lack of education?
The rebels that fought for Greek independence in 1821 knew better when they used the slogan "No Turk should remain in the Peloponnese. No Turk should remain in the whole world."
They were absolutely right. As long as Turks exist, we will never be at peace. They will never be satisfied unless they reconquer us. And what are we doing? We are making fools of ourselves and think that all problems will be solved through dialogue and diplomacy. Bullshit!
What we need is an army to secure our borders because our country has become a place where everybody can come without any control.
Should the dirty-Turks invade us some time we would not even notice it. The whole area of Thrace if full of Muslims and Greek people have become an endangered species.
Who's gonna stop an impending invasion? These traitors? Why do we tolerate these people in our country? We should have stricter laws saying: "Come here sir, you don't believe in Jesus Christ? You don't speak Greek? Then you have no business here! Hit the road! Greece belongs to the Greeks!".
But no, we don't want to be called racists, so we prefer being civilized assholes instead, supposedly European citizens! If one dares to speak about these things in a forthright manner everybody will attack him like a pack of hyenas ready to devour him. Nowadays one is afraid of saying ''I am a patriot''! The mob comes out screaming "He is a fascist!". That's crazy!
How can we make a progress as a country under these circumstances? Damn the disgraced politicians that rule us! All of them have been bought off. They are puppets in the hands of the Americans!
If we had a competent leader, we could become a superpower as we have been in the past. We would have Constantinople as the capital city of the Greek state. But no matter how long it takes, we will achieve this at some point in the future. Sooner or later, this land will be ours again. God is by our side! And then we will put an end to the nightmare of Turkey once and for all. The best defense is the attack. Alexander the Great became so great because instead of waiting to be attacked by the Persians he attacked them first and destroyed them. This is what we should do.''
At that point, a pupil interrupted him asking: "But how is it possible to attack Turkey, sir? There is just a few of us! They will completely destroy us!''
Then the teacher replied to him as this: "My son, us the Greek people we have great potential as long as we believe in our nation. Greeks do not fight only with weapons but also with their soul that's why they are invincible.
When the Greek revolution began in 1821, no foreigner believed that a handful of people would defeat the all-powerful Ottoman Empire, but this finally happened! Of course, proper preparation is also needed. We can't take action while being unprepared.
At this point I would like to say a few words to the girls. You know how important it is for us to have a large population. The future of our homeland depends on you because we have become a country that consists mainly of old people. If each of you has two children, you will do no service to the country because this doesn't increase the population. Real patriotic women have 3,4,5 kids, as many as they can. Personally, I am the father of multiple kids.
You have to be careful. Don't let feminist crap lead you astray. There is nothing more sacred than homeland and motherhood. All these women who hate the institution of marriage and family are traitors. They want to divide us and wipe our race out.
Our enemies fill with pleasure when they see our numbers decreasing because they will be able to do to us whatever they want. And what about us? Are we going to do them this favor?
As far as it concerns all these disgraced anarchists, what can I say? They go and burn the flag of our country to show off. Nothing is sacred to them. So much blood has been spilt to liberate our country and these ignorant of history people reject our nation's struggles as trash.
If Kolokotronis had known that we would end up like this, he would have never taken the trouble to free our land. Some guys out there need a sound thrashing! Don't these hooligans have families to control them? If I ever learned that my son was involved in such vandalisms, I would either call the police to arrest him or I would get my shotgun to solve this problem once and for all. I would rather have a dead son than a hooligan living in my house!
I forgot to tell you that there is also a new trend. Some guys refuse to join the army! Who would believe it?
One flees the country moving abroad - supposedly for studies - and forgets to return back, the other bribes the recruiters in order to be exempt from military service or even get his army discharge papers without serving at all while others refuse to serve because of conscientious objection. The world is heading for disaster!
Justice should be really strict in these cases and punish such people severely, because if others follow their example then we are lost! Who's going to serve in the army then? Nobody!
They say that they fight for peace, but they can't convince me. It seems to me they are just lazy and cowards and nothing more. Surely they must be some of those mama's boys that expect their mothers to cook their meals and wash their pants. If they joined the army, they would get homesick from the very start, they would suffer withdrawal syndrome away from their home and mom!"
At this point the nationalistic - fascist monologue of this particular teacher ended after enough poison had been spilt in the souls of children at a tender age. Children who were just starting to form their views concerning the society they lived in. The proverb "like teacher, like student" comes true especially if there is no possibility of a different view to be heard, something that is common in the closed microcosm of provincial areas. Under these circumstances, how can one avoid becoming a fascist?
